You cannot get here by car. Thus, you will have to follow a path through a dense forest and climb a steep slope to reach the top. In the mountains, some regulations have been developed by the government to protect the high mountain forest. They prohibit camping above 3500 feet (1100 m) anywhere within the Catskill Forest Preserve. The exception is the winter period from December 21 to March 21. Tourists are also prohibited from lighting open fires at any time of the year. All these measures are aimed at preserving the environment and the unique nature of the Catskills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several ascents of varying difficulty to the Slide Mountain. There are both 0.7 mile (1.1 km) and 6.25 mile (10.06 km) trails.
